Trichotillomania: Imprisoned Victim? Empowerment!

Listen to how Abby found how to finally leave her compulsive hair pulling, victim-self behind. Begin to understand that process of how, you too can empower yourself to stop listening to the voices of others and listen to yours; your inner voice! The voice of healing. The voice that can release you from your hair pulling and stop your Trichotillomania. Part 3 of a 3-part series.

In this final segment, Abby discusses:

  1. Shifting from Victim to Empowerment
  2. I was “imprisoned” with hair pulling and life issues
  3. I finally began to listen to my own voice instead of continuing to listen to outside voices

“For each illness that doctors cure with medicine, they provoke ten in healthy people by injecting them with a virus that is a thousand times more powerful than any microbe: the idea that one is ill.” –Proust

The idea that something is an illness is a terribly contagious message of powerlessness more overwhelming than any germ. It infects one’s mind. Reflect on this as you answer the following questions:

  • How does it help to believe that trich is an illness or an incurable compulsive behavior?
  • How does this belief empower you (or your hair pulling child)?
  • How does it improve your life (or that of your hair pulling child)?
  • If you didn’t believe this, how would it change your approach to hair pulling?
