Last Valentine’s Day (2008), students were asked to acknowledge that they are in a PRIMARY RELATIONSHIP with trichotillomania. For some of us, compulsive hair pulling has been a best friend, a confidant, an unconditionally accepting, 24/7 friend. It’s time to acknowledge the truth of this relationship formally, in writing. Write a love letter to hair pulling and say all the things that you’ve really been feeling. If you’re willing, post your letter here to share with the others.

Here are a few student’s “love” letters to trich:

“Dear Hair Pulling,

“I want to let you know how much of an impact you have had in my life. I’ve depended on you so much and for most of my life. You’ve been there for me at any moment, any time of the day or night. You are the one place I can go to share my feelings with. The one I can trust to always be there for me. You don’t have a physical voice, you let me (my feelings) have a voice for you.

“I don’t know what the future holds for us or if you will even be a part of it. But for now, thank you for being there for me.”

Love,
T

“Dearest Trich…..

“It is hard to express my love for you, because I spent years hating you.

“You know why I hate you but I will now tell you why I love you:

“You were there for me when no one else was.
You continue to be there for me.
You allowed me to endure in difficult times.
You allowed me to survive my feelings & emotions.
You allow me to hide from the world.
You protected me.
You took away my fears.
You made the world go away.
I can count on you.

“Thank you Trich!”

Love xxxxx
